Hi There friends!
For those of us who are over fifty, changing our regular routine can be well, daunting. Let’s face it, as you age you become less comfortable with change. And if you have bee using the same make up for let’s say, oh,
twenty , no make that thirty years….Yikes! Really?!! then it’s time to face the music gals, because our skin is not the same and the look you want shouldn’t be the same either.
It’s not about looking younger, but looking good for your age. When I was in my forties, yes, it was about looking younger. But now, I’ve reluctantly accepted the fact that it is what it is. So here is a couple of quick and easy tips I’ve developed for the over the hill look:
ALWAYS MOISTURIZE. It’s best to apply your moisturizer right before your foundation, it goes on easier and blends better.
MOISTURIZE WITH A SUNSCREEN. I use a cheap but good over the counter moisturizer, Eucerin Daily Protection with SPF 30 works great!
If your eyelids are starting to thin or you notice that eye shadow just doesn’t go on as smoothly as it used to, then apply some foundation with your fingertips as a primer.
AVOID dark colors on your eyes and lips. There is nothing that makes you look more haggard than dark red lipstick, no matter what your coloring. Stick to rosy, pink or peach tones.
TAKE THE TIME TO VISIT A COSMETIC COUNTER. You will save a lot of time and money by trying out new colors and looks here then by going the over the counter route. This is especially true for foundation. I use Clinique super balanced make up tint in cream chamois. During the summer months I might switch to one shade darker since I avoid laying out in the sun now but still want to look tan.And remember blend, blend, blend! There’s nothing worse than seeing a change in color along your jaw line!
Speaking of looking tan, I use a bronzing powder by Pur for the summer months. There is a great product that my friend Lisa swears by for that summer glow; Dr. Dennis Gross alpha beta glow pad for face towelettes. They are available on Amazon for around $28.00.
WEAR LIGHT COLORS CLOSE TO YOUR FACE. If you haven’t realized it by now, black or dark colors near your face age you a good 5 years or more. Of course, now that you might be fighting the midriff bulge, black tops are your best friend, but try to layer it with a white collared shirt or bright print scarf.
ALWAYS take the time to put on mascara. If you have been using black, switch to dark brown, it’s less harsh. You can also try to not use eyeliner underneath your lower lashes, especially if your tired. Pencil eyeliner is more forgiving than liquid, and smudging the line so it’s softer looking draws attention to the eyes without too much drama.
STICK TO NATURAL COLORS. When applying eye shadow, softer neutral tones are best. Remember, you want people to see you, not your makeup!
BE BEAUTIFUL FROM THE INSIDE OUT : ) Others will remember you for your kind and gentle attitude a lot longer than they will for your make up. Sometimes it is hard to be pleasant when your hormone’s are raging an internal war against you and you’re hot than cold than hot….but you’re not so try to make the best of it! This to will pass.
Enjoy the journey,
